Cheap, Easy Audio Transcription with Mechanical Turk - Waxy.org

Use MT to get audio transcribed at 1/10th of the usual cost. I'm going to give this a shot with the video of my PyCon tutorial, with an eye towards getting all of the PyCon 2009 video transcribed. Wish me luck!

Amazon Web Services Blog: 100% on Amazon Web Services: Soocial.com

A look at one app's AWS architecture. Nginx, HAProxy, Rails, pgpool II, PostgreSQL, and RabbitMQ. I didn't realize that pgpool II did sharding at the balancer layer; that makes this kind of set up much easier.

Amazon Web Services Blog: Big Day for Amazon EC2

Lots of new stuff on EC2: oo more beta (nice), SLA promising 99.95% uptime (woo!), Windows/SQL Server support (meh). Coming soon: management console (nice), monitoring (sweet), auto-scaling (yay!) and load balancing (wahoo!!). If anyone seriously wants to compete with Amazon in the cloud services space, they're gonna need to jump quick. Once these new features land I don't think there'll be any reasons left not to use EC2.

RightScale Dashboard Demo

Amazing-looking dashboard/GUI for AWS/EC2. I gotta give this a try.

Amazon Web Services Developer Connection : Feature Guide: Amazon EC2 Elastic IP Addresses

Elastic IP addresses are static IP addresses designed for dynamic cloud computing. An Elastic IP address is associated with your account, not a particular instance…” This is really big deal; it'll make hosting sites solely on AWS much easier.

inside looking out ยป What You Need To Know About Amazon SimpleDB

SimpleDB is out. And it's built on top of Erlang. Awesome.

Amazon.com Startup Project / Startup Challenge

Looks like Amazon's trying out the YC model. Interesting, if a bit limited in scope.
