Radar covers the Flickr/BurningMan/OSM collaboration. I happen to know that this uses the GIS add-on to a certain popular web framework; I expect to hear more about that side of things at DjangoCon.

Paul explains a bit about how the maps on EveryBlock work. I hope he'll give more details in the future; fitting all these bits together can be difficult, and EveryBlock's implementation of the Open Source geo stack is the prettiest to date.
