A quick update on the Django Book:
Adrian and I wrapped up the last few bits last week, and the book went to the printer on Friday. It should start shipping to bookstores around the second week of December. There’s still a fair amount of work that needs to be done on the website, so I can’t put the final version of the book up just yet. However, the final book will be available online around the same time as the dead tree version.
Woohoo!
Comments:
Fantastic news!
Like many Djangonauts, I've been dying to get my hands on this, and I'm sure it will have been worth the wait. Thanks for working so hard to get the definitive guide to Django out there into "dead tree land".
Great to hear!
Woo! Finally no more emails from Amazon explaining that my order will be delayed! I can't wait to get my hands on it.
So....does this mean Django is *almost* at 1.0?
Grats! Glad to hear it :) Can't wait for my copy.
This is fantastic news!!! Having the book done will really give Django a boost.
Just preordered it. Congrats!
Awesome news! Online docs are great but there is nothing better than the kinetics involved in reading a real life book! Can't wait.
Great work Jacob!
Fantastic! Great work!
That is absolutely fantastic Jacob, congratulations to everyone involved with it.
Great work :) Does this mean Django Version 1.0 will get out before Christmas? And I suppose the Book already describes newforms-admin (So you would need to get out djagno 1.0 out before shipping the book, as many people are waiting for this book to learn django).
Nevertheless thx for this great book, I will definitively advise newcomers to buy the book.
Jacob, Adrian, thanks! Just in time for christmas :)
Great job guys :-) I'll definitely grab a copy from Amazon :-)
Good job guys! Looking fw to it!
When do you plan to update online version?
There are no "Chapter 7: Form processing", "Chapter 13: Comments", Appendixes (all).
Sorry, you've already answered in the post. Were so glad that couldn't wait to read it to the end :)
Contgratulations, can't wait :)
Where can I preorder? Congratulations!
It will be in my shelf as soon as possible! Congratulations!
Let me also lend my Congrats! :-)
I can only imagine how nice it must feel. ;-) :-)
Kyle Fox: This has nothing to do with Django's version status -- 1.0 or otherwise. The book covers the current version of Django.
It's amusing how long books like these stay relevent.
Many thanks
Brilliant! Thanks for you work on this, it'll be a very helpful resource!
Adrian Holovaty: When you say "current version of Django" you mean 0.96 stable release or the current version in trunk?
Daniel Burtescu: We tried to straddle both 0.96 and the current trunk, writing it in a way that (we hope) is pretty future-proof.
One of the many nice things about this project is that the book will continue to be available at djangobook.com, and that's a place for us to make updates to the text as the software matures.
Thanks for the fantastic work and congratulations!
Just pre-ordered my copy from Amazon :)

What's interesting is how much help have you received through your neat comment system and how many of those comments influenced your decision with regard to content?
Congratulations, guys! People tell me that writing books is hard work.
Yipee!
Yay!
Thanks! Just ordered on amazon.
Congratulation to django book team,
i would personally like to thank Adrian and Jacob for making the online version of the django book freely available.
actually i am from Nepal. Here, i can't order book via Amazon and I dont think i can get the djangobook in our book store easily.
keep rocking with django.
This is great news!! I know a lot of us have been anticipating the release of the "dead tree" version of the book for a long time now! And, as others have mentioned, it's just in time for Christmas! Hopefully I ramble about Django enough around my wife that she has an idea of what I would like for Christmas! hehe
Thanks for all the hard work and excellent product!
great news!! and great work..
thnx
Congrats guys! A book is always more difficult to produce than it sounds at first! I'm glad you guys survived it!
Hi, the PDF book is already available on Apress website!
The first DjangoBook was just purchased by David at WebFaction!
(Of course it's a PDF edition)
http://forum.webfaction.com...
David at WebFaction may have been the first to get a PDF copy from WebFaction, but I am guessing I may be among the first to have pre-ordered the book at Amazon. I placed my order Oct.6, 2006 and can't wait to get my hands on it!

Congratulations, Jacob and Adrian!! Anything worth having is worth waiting for!
I'm glad to see the PDF version already available on the Apress website! Of course I've already pre-ordered the paper edition from Amazon but I'm tempted to buy the PDF now...
Congrats!
Amazon is now shipping! http://www.amazon.com/o/ASI...
My copy just arrived--here at hand. Congratulations, y'all.
Have my department ordered a copy. Hope it can reach Beijing soon.
