My last entry about my dog eating my DSlite hit Digg (screenshot), Reddit (screenshot), and a couple of other big-traffic sites over the weekend.
Pretty cool, but the coolest part is that my server — a single commodity Linux box that cost less than $3,000, running about 15 other sites — didn’t even hiccup.
Reason #4453 to use Django? It’s fast. Crazy fast.
Oh, and to all the Diggers who suggested that I should kill my dog? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on.
Really, who goes to some random guy’s website and suggests that he kill his dog? Who are these people?
Digg really is the new Slashdot.
Update
More stats, as requested by Pupeno in the comments:
- Hits: around 40k hits over the last 48 hours; seems like about half from Digg. I haven’t calculated hits/second yet; I’d guess a peak around 50 or so.
- Hardware: dual 2GHz Opteron, 8GB RAM.
- Software: Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, Django.
- Traffic: peaked around 120k/s; average seems to be around 30-40.
Comments:
Yay for Django, Boo for Diggers!
Care to share statistics ? How many hits ? What computer ? how much download ? etc...
Django f-in rocks! This is just one more reason!
You're the first one from our class I've ever unexpectedly come across on the internet, and this isn't even the first time (there was something about Jing Jing... don't remember why I saw that). Anyway, email me if you want. jmalone@hmc.edu
Holy Crap Jacob... I totally saw that article on Digg and promptly scrolled past it never knowing that it was about you... However I come to the jacobian site with a hope of seeing a bit of news of your upcoming August event, or at least remind myself how to make rice for sushi, and, well, the rest of this story is kind of self explanatory...
Anyway, I was just wondering how I link to anything interesting on your site... there doesn't appear to be any, uh, links on the home page... (Side Note: If there are some links and they're just too high speed for me to find, I'll state right here that I am on of the idiot non-hackers who abuse Digg by reading the articles and contributing nothing but a zest for knowledge...)
Anyway, (2nd time now) I look forward to seeing you in August and Congratulations!!!
