I don’t care whose is bigger

I wrote this post in 2007, more than 17 years ago. It may be very out of date, partially or totally incorrect. I may even no longer agree with this, or might approach things differently if I wrote this post today. I rarely edit posts after writing them, but if I have there'll be a note at the bottom about what I changed and why. If something in this post is actively harmful or dangerous please get in touch and I'll fix it.

Lately there’s been a big flare-up of web geek dick waving. This happens from time to time, and every time it just pisses me off to no end.

All this arguing over “glue” versus “decoupled”, “full-stack” versus “NIH”… it reminds me of the ridiculous “surge”/“escalation” frenzy flaring up over in D.C.

And like politics, these dick waving contents only really succeed because the sane people get too disgusted to participate. All that’s left are the people who are pedantic or insane enough to keep shouting back and forth. These aren’t sane discussions of merit, they’re semantic and political discussions, and nobody except those involved gives a fuck.

Will someone call me when everyone’s put their cocks away?
